All are welcome to join the Heart & Soul Singing Retreats. This means that there will be a mix of people who have sung before and people who haven’t and every other singing experience in between. Keely is committed to sharing the joy of singing with others and helping those who have not sung before to discover their unique voice.
The singing sessions are informal and no previous singing experience, or the ability to read music, is required. Keely uses gentle physical and breathing exercise and vocal warm-ups to encourage healthy singing techniques. Songs are drawn from a variety of sources, including folk, gospel, and contemporary natural voice repertoire. Keely teaches each harmony part in a call and response way so that a song is built up in small and memorable portions; the songs allowing for reflection as well as joyful expression. The aim is to make singing together a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The weekend programme gives space for rest as well as time to enjoy the company of others.
A typical singing retreat programme:
Day 1: Guests arrive from 4pm and an evening meal is followed by introductions and a gentle sing.
Day 2: the morning is divided into two singing sessions with a coffee break. After lunch, guests are free to relax, explore the surrounding area. Following afternoon tea, a singing session brings everyone together before the evening meal. A gentle night-sing is offered.
Day 3: the morning’s sessions bring together the songs that have been shared and our time is rounded off with lunch and an opportunity for some parting songs before departures.
