Liverpool Sings Festival

22 Oct 2023

10am—5pm

Tung Auditorium, University of Liverpool

Liverpool Sings Festival returns with four dynamic singing masterclasses in soul, jazz, gospel and musical theatre. The day-long festival led by Jennifer John, Amber Kuti, Wayne Ellington and Nicole Battick promises to be interactive and uplifting.

Jennifer John is an award-winning composer, singer/songwriter and curator of Liverpool Sings Festival. She will explore rhythms and harmonies in the opening soul a cappella masterclass. Through awareness of the breath and heart connection, she will use original material to facilitate group singing at its finest.

Amber Kuti’s masterclass will focus on the jazz classic, ‘All of Me’ and explore improvisation and song interpretation. With an impressive track record including The Black Panther movie soundtrack, international live performances and as visiting lecturer at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, Amber’s session will offer the opportunity for volunteers to demonstrate their own improvisations.

Wayne Ellington’s career as a lecturer and performer has seen him empower hundreds of people to step out of self-doubt into confident accomplishment and acknowledgement of their abilities. An advocate of gospel music, Wayne is a member of the outstanding ensemble, The Kingdom Choir and a lecturer at Royal Northern College of Music.

The final masterclass led by Nicole Battick will appeal to musical theatre performers seeking to deeply connect with their audiences. Having already collaborated with some world performers including Kathy Sledge, Take That and Shaun Escoffery, Nicole is set to have a stunning career as an exceptional singer and vocal coach.
