Learn songs from across our many cultures, then join your voice with others to fill our Courtyard with midwinter joy at the Big Winter Sing on Sat 14 December!
All songs will be taught by ear so no need to read music or have any previous experience – passion and enthusiasm is all you need!
Each session will cover different songs, so you can join us for just one of the sessions or for as many as you like! Book for all 3 sessions at once for £9. All tickets must be booked at the same time, offer not available in retrospect.

WORKSHOP DETAILS
1. Tues 26 November 7 – 8.30pm
Song Geet South Asian Women’s Choir will teach you a festive song from their unique culture.
Song Geet was born after International Women’s Day 2022. It grew out of the women’s shared memories of singing traditional songs with their mothers and wanting to share that with others. Song Geet’s mission is to combine the enjoyment of singing with building the confidence and visibility of South Asian women and to share their culture with everyone.
2. Tues 3 December 7 – 8.30pm
Natalia Mirkun of the Ukrainian British Friendship Group will teach you a traditional Ukrainian winter song.
Natalia was a singer, dancer and actress in her native Ukraine where she worked extensively including with Doctor Alban. Since arriving in the UK she founded and leads the Ukrainian Friendship Group who meet and perform at Lawrence Batley Theatre. Natalia is also involved in creative projects including singing in Dear Sunflowers based on the life of Ukrainian artist Maria Prymachenko.
3. Tues 10 December 7 – 8.30pm
Learn a winter song from the British folk tradition with Far Cry Acapella and their Musical Director, Jenny Goodman.
Far Cry Acapella are a mixed voice acapella performance group who sing harmony songs from folk traditions all over the world. Their leader, Jenny Goodman, is a singer, choir leader, performer and songwriter with over 30 years’ experience. She believes singing is for everyone and is inspired by bringing people together across cultures to join their voices together.
On Sat 14 December, there will be a rehearsal at 2pm ahead of the Big Winter Sing performance at 4.30pm.
The workshops complete with a Big Sing in the Courtryard. Sing the songs you have learnt and then join in with our Big Sing of some classic carols. Mulled wine, mince pies and lots of sparkle guaranteed!
One Voice is part of Lawrence Batley Theatre’s 30th birthday celebrations. All money raised on the day will go towards our 30th birthday fundraising.
