Brighton Unitarian Church

Singing Workshop 10.45am-12.30pm Concert 2pm – 3pm

Sian Croose writes:

Helen Chadwick is one of the UK’s finest vocal artists, a composer and performer who has created a wealth of beautiful music for voices. From the solo voice to the massed choir, Helen’s brilliant approach to vocal composition and performance has moved audiences around the world and inspired a generation of singers.

In these concerts Helen is joined by Sian Croose and Barbara Gellhorn who are reuniting their unique blend of voices for this inspiring concert programme. They have performed across Europe and in site-specific performances for Greenwich Festival and at the Royal Opera House.

The Bright Field takes its name from a poem by the Welsh poet R.S. Thomas about a moment of unutterable beauty when we can seize the day and be present in each moment of our life.

The lyrics include uplifting words from poets across the world: from the love poetry of Chile to the Sufi poets of Persia; from poetry of the land in Scotland to the ancient charms and chants of the land in Finland; from an Italian folk song of love to a Russian woman poet’s record of survival, from a poem of the night in an Indian village to a burning candle of hope in the dark.
