Some of the most beautiful, moving and joyful singing doesn’t rely on pages of lyrics. Instead, the voice itself becomes the instrument. Spend a whole weekend exploring music where the voice takes centre stage without pages of words to remember.

No foreign lyrics to wrestle with, no reading glasses, and no staring at a sheet of paper (or your phone!). Just the freedom of singing.

We’ll explore a rich variety of styles and traditions, including jazz scat, Jewish nigunim, Sámi joiks, Celtic Puirt à beul (mouth music), classical and folk fa la las, vocalises, songs built around just a handful of words (“alleluia”, “mravalazamier”, “senwa dedende”), and modern pieces by composers such as Meredith Monk and Helen Chadwick.

Whether you find lyrics a challenge or simply love discovering unusual and beautiful music, this weekend will open up a whole new world of singing. Everything will be taught by ear in a fun, friendly and informal way. No previous experience needed — just bring yourself and have a go.
