This is an embodied voice workshop for women, ALL women.
What do I mean by embodied voice? It is a way of embedding your voice consciously and mindfully within your physicality, your emotional and mental state so that at any moment you can fully express who you are.
This will be a fusion of open floor movement practice and experiential voice exploration grounded in over 25 years of working with voice in various capacities.
As someone who has offered this work for a number of years, it has usually been to cis-women and while I acknowledge that these spaces are still needed, I want to take another step. To welcome those who, in my eyes, are also women, who perhaps don’t fit the prescribed mould of what a woman is in the eyes of the Donald Trumps of the world.
For me, this offering is an act of resistance against oppression, grounded in compassion – both cis, trans and queer women know this place well – of being shut down, talked over and ignored. As communities of women, we are stronger when we join our voices together, supporting each other as only women know best how to do.
This will be a workshop to unravel the stories around your voices, what you have been taught you ‘should’ sound like and should not. To re-discover the range and power you have available and embed your voice in the cells and bones of your body, so that when you speak, sound or sing, your voice comes from your whole self, unapologetically and communicates the uniqueness of you.
