The rich harmony singing of the Republic of Georgia stretches back thousands of years and has been recognised by UNESCO as an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience one of the world’s great harmony traditions.

In Georgia, singing has long been at the heart of everyday life. Polyphonic songs in the Georgian language have helped preserve a unique culture through centuries of invasion and oppression.

There are songs for every occasion: work songs, healing songs, Christmas carols, lively table songs, reverent chants, and ancient liturgical hymns. Although Georgia is a small country, each region has its own distinctive musical style, creating an astonishing variety of sounds.

Georgian harmony is unlike anything else in the world — rich, powerful, and deeply moving. So remarkable is this tradition that the Georgian song Chakrulo was included on the Voyager Golden Record, launched into space in 1977 to represent the diversity of life on Earth.
