Lancaster Pub Carols Workshop

15 Nov 2025

10am—4.30pm

Gregson Centre on Moor Lane, Lancaster - there is free parking nearby, and the railway station is 15 minutes walk.

Workshop to learn the pub carols which we will be singing together in the Gregson bar on Tuesday evening, December 9 2025 –  we will be joined by Lakeland Voices, a local community choir who have been singing these songs for over 20 years.

David Burbidge will be teaching the songs by ear, but written music is available for home study if requested. Recordings are available on my free SoundCloud site.

Our songs are drawn from lively folk carols and the robust Sheffield pub carols, and include the Boar’s Head, Pentonville, Old Foster, Diadem, Curly Hark, Halsay carol, Gaudete, Shepherds Arise,  Jacobs Well….and more.

David Burbidge has led community choirs in Lancaster, the Lake District, Scotland and Slovenia for over 30 years – often singing in pubs and on mountain paths. He leads Lakeland Voices and Bentham Voices community choirs in Kendal and Bentham.

Singers are welcome to join the workshop even if they can’t make the singing in the bar on Tuesday December 9. There is another pub carols workshop on November 15 in the Gregson, and at the Dent Folk Carols weekend in the Yorkshire Dales on Saturday December 6 2025
