Sing for Water Aberystwyth 2024

13 Jul 2024

11am—5pm

Outside the bandstand on the Promenade at Aberystwyth

This is an event to raise money for WATERAID, a charity that provides clean water to communities that do not have safe and clean water. You may have been involved in Sing For Water in previous years, in London, Leicester, Cardiff or Shrewsbury. Last year London and Cardiff did not manage to obtain their funding and so the organisers suggested we held our own local events. In response to this, we held our first SING FOR WATER ABERYSTWYTH in 2023. This event was so successful, raising over £4000 for WaterAid and involving more than 100 singers, we decided to hold the event again in 2024, but this time earlier in the year, in the hope that the weather will be warmer, and maybe drier. This way we should be able to accommodate more than 100 singers on the day.

It will be an all-day event, based in and outside the bandstand on the Promenade at Aberystwyth.

The plan is this:

  • There will be 5 songs that everyone who attends will learn in advance, and will sing together on the day, once in the morning, and once in the afternoon. Scores, words and sound files of the songs will be provided in advance to allow singers to learn at home if needed. Practices will be arranged by several choir leaders and the dates of those practices will be circulated to all who have expressed interest in the project.
  • Each of the participating choirs will prepare 2 or 3 songs to perform as a choir – there may well be overlap of the songs learnt, which will lead to collaboration between the choirs for the performance(hurray!!)
  • The individual choir performances will also be repeated, once in the morning, and once in the afternoon.
  • There will be one “Just Giving” page devoted to Sing For Water Aberystwyth, and singers will be asked to circulate the information about what we are doing to all their family, friends and contacts, to obtain as many donations as possible.
  • Singers will be asked to register interest by paying a small registration fee (between £5 and £30). All of this money will go directly to WaterAid.
  • A practice of the mass choir songs will take place first thing in the morning, (9.30/10am) with all singers present. The doors of the bandstand will then be opened, and after a short announcement to the public, the performance will begin, singing out to passers by. We will have collecting buckets to collect donations from the public, as well as information about the “Just Giving “ page.
  • No refreshments will be provided in the bandstand, but there are cafés and kiosks on the promenade. Singers are advised to bring a drink and a packed lunch.

Once you have registered, you will receive the link to the music, sound files and information sheets about the songs. You will also be sent emails periodically giving you updates on the arrangements for the day.
