Anyone who connects with Shepton Mallet (and even if you don’t!) – can join this pop-up community sing, in support of the ‘Buy The Amulet‘ campaign to reopen the Amulet Theatre as a multi-purpose community venue in the heart of Shepton Mallet.
Please drop in, even if you can only spare half an hour! Stay as long as you can…
We will sing Natural Voice compositions and other uplifting, ‘quick win’ songs to create a feeling of unity and harmony.
Originally built in 1975 as The Centre, the building was a gift to the town from the Showering Family. It operated as a popular theatre and community centre for many years but has been in private ownership and largely out of public use since 2011.
Now a number of residents and community groups have come together with a bid to return the building to full community use. This exciting opportunity has the potential to transform the centre of the town and regenerate the high street.
This community sing will be led by Sue Rushforth, who celebrated her wedding at The Amulet in 1997. Having lived and worked in Shepton district for 26 years she has a strong link with the town and would love to see The Amulet re-open as a place where people come together and enjoy themselves!
Sue ran Shepton Sings! community choir for 2 years before relocating to Cornwall. She’s now back and very happy to be re-connecting with her ‘home’ town.
In consideration of the climate breakdown and sustainable communities – please consider walking, cycling, car sharing or travelling by public transport if you can. It is acknowledged that this is not always practical or possible.
Shepton Mallet town centre shops would also welcome your support.
Looking forward to Singing Out for Shepton!
