Join us here on the banks of the river Clough near Sedbergh in the Yorkshire Dales for a weekend of harmony singing in the garden – with songs about sheep and where the sheep live. The most famous sheep song is Tarry Wool , which was collected by Ralph Vaughan Williams in the Sun Inn at Dent in August 1904 – which we will visit in the evening.
“Poor harmless creatures without blame, the clothe the back and cram the wane, keep us warm and hearty too, well’s on us our tarry wool.” Tarry Wool
Songs about sheep and the natural world portrayed by our natural voices.
Soup and tea and honey and refreshments included.
Plus outing to see the Slovenian beehive donated by the Slovenian Embassy to Sedbergh in gratitude for over two decades of town twinning with Zreče. Slovenia has the highest percentage of beekeepers per capita throughout all Europe. Their honey is mostly organic. Photo shows Lakeland Voice singers visiting a honey farm near Bled in Slovenia.
Come of the day or the whole weekend. There will also be an opportunity to visit the Farfield Mill art gallery and craft exhibits. The whole of Sedbergh works tirelessly to create models and images of sheep which will adorn the town and arts centre here on the banks of the river Clough.
