Mondays 12 May, 2, 16 and 30 June, and 14 July 7-9pm
The Singing Village Labs are a space for vocal improvisers to build and refine their practice. An opportunity to grow alongside a stable and supportive group of singers with a shared focus, similar skills and confidence, and yet wildly different humans.
There will be exercises and games in the sessions, as well as individual and group homework to keep momentum in between the encounters.
We’ll focus on the different aspects of Circlesinging and Collaborative Vocal Improvisation:
- learning diverse structures and prompts to start from, and practising different ways to relate and respond musically to other people’s ideas.
- deepening the use of invented language and words- musical articulation, variety, purpose, texture, meaning.
- understanding better the musical context for melody (harmony-mode) and becoming freer as a melody creator.
- developing rhythmic vocabulary and precision. Learning to sing rhythmically and create rhythmical structures.
- understanding musical form: shapes, patterns, the compositional aspect of improvisation.
- developing everyone’s unique, confident voice as a soloist. Vocal freedom, flexibility, authenticity, exploring the possibilities.
- reconnecting with intuitive, ancestral ways of singing together that nurture self-expression and strengthen community.
