Curious about this work? There are upcoming Sunday afternoon Open Workshops in Vocal Tai Chi
Come and explore the work and meet Jenni in Crouch End, North London .
Applications for the apprenticeship are open until August 7th.
Vocal Tai Chi helps expand and relax the voice through this grounding process. The work is based on drone-centred vocal improvisation, a process of following threads of your authentic and spontaneous inner music, both in group and solo work. Tai Chi principles are used in conjunction with an expanded map of the vocal range, while also connecting to a drone pitch-centre. Using the metaphor of a vocal house, ‘basement, ground, mezzanine and attic,’ the voice crosses thresholds through melodic and timbral explorations. As the voice opens, so do you. In Vocal Tai Chi, the voice acts as a measure, expression and embodiment of all parts of you. You move through vocal challenges as gateways to freedom, where personal and collective vocal magic can arise.
The apprenticeship takes you on a journey of CDP. Once completed, you will receive a certificate and can practice Vocal Tai Chi.
The principles of Vocal Tai Chi are woven into a practice that allows room for exploration and self learning.
The 2023 apprenticeship passed five practitioners, allowing them to run workshops, one-to-one sessions, and integrate VTC into their performances and other offerings.
Discretionary grants: Jenni is committed to accessibility, with discretionary grants available for underrepresented groups and those facing financial barriers, on a case-by-case basis. The minimum amount payable for the apprenticeship is £800, with the ONE two-thirds grant covering the rest of the cost. There is only one grant for this amount being offered, so it’s more competitive to get it. Several grants of £800 are available to apply for, with a course cost of £1600. The full course cost is £2400 for those who are self-funding.
We are working in the new weekends only format.
