Janet has been running Southsea Community Choir since 2007, and along the way has run led various choirs, singing workshops and singing days. She trained with Frankie Armstrong in 2007 and has also completed singing training with the Alzheimer\’s Society and The British Lung Foundation to offer dementia friendly singing, and sing for lung health session.

Awarded an honorary degree by the University of Portsmouth in 2022 for her creative services to the local singing, music and arts scene in the city and beyond, she continues to run sessions for people to explore their creativity to improve physical and mental health, including regular singing workshops, scratch bands, circle dance, music improvisation, and observational drawing groups. She also performs regularly with a jazz/swing trio and as a musichall duo act, plus visits care homes to provide live musical entertainment and sing-along for the residents, staff and visitors.

In addition to vocal work, she runs a Folk Band, International Folk/Circle dance groups and regular art classes in Southsea

Saturday Sing in Southsea
Description

Monthly (3rd) Saturday singing workshop led by Janet Ayers.
A drop in monthly singing workshop for anyone who wants to have a good old sing. Perfect for beginners and rusty singers alike.
Vocal warm ups, easy rounds and scrumptious harmonies singing songs from all around the globe.
£6 cash on the door – No need to book, just turn up and join in.

Meets September to May on the 3rd Sat of the month. NB: 2nd Sat in December

Free parking at church, accessible via Collingwood Road (rear of building). Buses to Albert Road traffic lights.

Third Saturday of the month 10.30am-12.30pm September to May plus outdoor sessions in the summer

Southsea Community Choir
Description

Southsea Community Choir meets on Tuesday evenings during term time.
50-strong mixed choir.
Repertoire includes NVN back catalogue, songs from around the world, with the odd popular rock, pop or jazz number thrown in, all unaccompanied four-part harmony arrangements.
We sing for joy each week and we aim to remember stuff well enough to perform for charity concerts.
Being part of the choir is a wholesome social activity that brings meaning & joy to life.
£7 a week or half term subs payable at the start of each term.
Annual Christmas Concert plus local busking opportunities throughout the year.
