Janet has been running Southsea Community Choir since 2007, and along the way has run led various choirs, singing workshops and singing days. She trained with Frankie Armstrong in 2007 and has also completed singing training with the Alzheimer’s Society and The British Lung Foundation to offer dementia friendly singing, and sing for lung health session.
Awarded an honorary degree by the University of Portsmouth in 2022 for her creative services to the local singing, music and arts scene in the city and beyond, she continues to run sessions for people to explore their creativity to improve physical and mental health, including regular singing workshops, scratch bands, circle dance, music improvisation, and observational drawing groups. She also performs regularly with a jazz/swing trio and as a musichall duo act, plus visits care homes to provide live musical entertainment and sing-along for the residents, staff and visitors.
She is currently aiming to improve her fiddle playing by squeaking for the local mixed morris side in Portsmouth

Repertoire includes NVN back catalogue, songs from around the world, with the odd popular rock, pop or jazz number thrown in.
We sing for joy each week and we aim to remember stuff well enough to perform for charity concerts.
Being part of the choir is a social activity that brings meaning to life.
£7 a week or half term subs payable at the start of each term.
Annual Christmas Concert plus local busking opportunities throughout the year.
