3 types of group: singing for wellbeing and fun, a performing choir and a childless women's group
Based in Kendal, Cumbria, Clare runs Growing Singing, a very small business with the aim of encouraging and enabling a growing number of people around Kendal to enjoy the benefits of a blooming good sing.
This involves four projects:
Two regular groups in Kendal town centre (at the Town Hall). A Monday evening drop-in and a Tuesday morning Dawn Chorus (also drop-in) where people just come for a one-off or for years and years to enjoy a good sing (and often a brew afterwards) with no commitment whatsoever. These groups have no aim but wellbeing and fun.
One performing community choir (starting January 2023, also in the Town Hall) which will focus on fundraising and generally making our community and the world (!) a better place to be living.
She also started Growing Singing Childless & Whole, a women’s singing group and that is now in transition, having started on Zoom in the pandemic times, and now being on hold until . . . . not sure what really! Contact me directly about that if it appeals. The name (hopefully) tells you much about it.
She has a singing email list of 200+ singing enthusiasts locally (feel free to send email material to publicise).
She also sings in a performing quartet, Pandora’s Handbag.
Singing for wellbeing – and no other reason. Singing glorious harmony songs from around the world with a friendly bunch of others. Good for us physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, musically! No music reading skills necessary. Just bring your willingness to sing.
Tuesday mornings in Kendal.
See the website for the details of the dates as these do not always follow school term-times.
Come for a free session, just to see if you like it.

A women’s singing group for those of us who happen not to have kids when that was part of our lifeplan (if we ever had one!) . This group started up online (on Zoom) in 2020. Since then it has had various forms but my longer term plan is to have women meeting in Kendal for a weekend of singing and friendship. There are no details online anymore but I’d put some up if I gathered a group ready for a weekend like this. If this has any interest for you do please just get in touch. I know it can be a horribly tender area to venture into – it certainly was for me – and I know that by meeting others who share some elements of our story we can come to a more comfortable, less tender, place with that story. Do look up Jody Day (and her book) and Gateway Women (the online community is now called Lighthouse Women and is wonderful!) if you haven’t already.
Not currently running except in my head! Contact me for details.

A NEW community choir in Kendal starting in January 2023. We’ll perform, we’ll fundraise, we’ll sing glorious songs from around the world and improve all our lives and the world more widely a little touch! We have two song leaders here as Rachael Wadey runs this with me.
