Additional information

I have been a natural voice teacher since 2003, and lead two choirs in South Dorset, run drop in workshops and regularly lead voice workshops at summer camps. My choirs

Harmonics Choir
Description

We sing songs in harmony about the turning of the year and the joy we find in simple things, songs which celebrate the natural world, little ditties, catchy tunes and epic songs. There’s no need to be a skilled performer. All you need is enthusiasm as all songs are taught by ear bit by bit, listening and singing back to the choir leader. ‘If you can talk you can sing!’

Session times

Thursday afternoons in term time from 2-4pm

Island Voices
Description

Island Voices has been running for over 15 years. Set up originally in 2005 as an Arts Council funding project, the people who took part enjoyed it so much that they formed as a choir to carry on writing songs and singing together when the funding ran out.

We have close links with our local community, responding to requests to support local organisations and causes and often perform at community events on the island and beyond. In 2021 and 2022 we collaborated with a local theatre group in the production of a community play based on the history of the island – Heart of Stone, with original songs written for the play.

The choir currently has 15 to 20 members. We have a reputation for the high quality of our singing and the passion with which we sing about Portland. We have a repertoire of original songs about Portland and the sea with words written by local people and choir members. We also sing a number of other songs in harmony. We are always enlarging and developing our repertoire, and actively support and encourage our members to develop their song-writing skills.

We actively support voluntary leaders from among our choir members to develop their skills in choir leading, which also leads to a varied repertoire of music for the choir.

Session times

Tuesday evenings in term time from 7.30 - 9.30pm
