Additional information

Maggie Newlands was born and educated in Scotland, and spent her adult life in London, working in music publishing, music education and music therapy.  Having sung in choirs since school days, in 2000 she became a founder member of a cappella vocal group Anam Cara along with Angela Reith and Judith Silver.  In 2009 Maggie went to live in the south of France where she ran the choir Eclats de Ruffe and sang with close harmony group Les Sweeties.  In 2016 she returned to her roots in the Highlands.  In addition to her work with The Vocal Line, she is a keen artist and an active member of the Ardersier International Folk Club.

Maggie arranges most of the music sung by The Vocal Line.  She teaches by ear, using piano accompaniment for most of the repertoire.

My choirs

The Vocal Line
Description

The Vocal Line is a small friendly choir, singing an eclectic repertoire of songs from many musical genres.  We are not particularly performance-driven, and generally put on one full length concert a year.. sharing the programme with other artists – an instrumentalist, other singers, poets.  We are often invited to contribute to other events – the summer ceilidh in Nairn, local church services, fundraising events, solstice celebrations.

Our monthly open workshops in Nairn focus on one particular theme or musical genre.
