Singing for Health: for Parkinson's, people bereaved by suicide and for mental health and wellbeing

Additional information

I have always loved singing! I originally trained as a physiotherapist and worked in both neurology and rheumatology, but after leading singing with home educated children and their parents, I started to lead Singing for Health groups, combining my passion for singing with my desire to promote health.

I now lead singing groups for people with Parkinson’s (both in person and on Zoom), and 2 groups for Cornwall Mind, one for people who have lost a loved one to suicide, and the other to promote general mental health and wellbeing. I am also a member of The Red River Singers, a community choir who sing traditional Cornish songs and perform at events around Cornwall.

Sing for Fun (for people with Parkinson’s)
Description

This group is for people with Parkinson’s and their family/carers to come along to sing for fun! We do vocal exercises and warm ups and sing both familiar and new songs with the intention of strengthening the voice to counteract the softening of speech and the loss of muscle tone common in Parkinson’s. We are a very friendly group and have a break for a drink and a chat and share news about events and opportunities for people with Parkinson’s in Cornwall.
