Additional information

I have been part of the Shylarks  (Old Trafford)  Teaching Team since 2007 and began to develop my song-leading skills under the expert guidance of fellow NVN member Faith Watson.  In 2013 I began leading Bury ‘Singing for Fun’ and for a couple of years I led Sing at the  Met (Bury) and was deputy MD for Bury Acapeelers until 2017. From 2016 I was MD of Quarternotes choir in Manchester but sadly this ended in December 2022, as numbers had declined following Covid and the group was no longer financially sustainable.

I love being able to help people sing together in harmony, whether it’s just for the joy of it, or leading towards a performance, for instance Street Choirs. I have also led one-off/fund-raising workshops (for Water Aid), as well as for Christmas and other festivals at my local church (St John’s) in Old Trafford.

I believe singing can be a profoundly spiritual experience without having to be ‘religious’ and my workshops are open to all, featuring a range of song styles, fun rounds and gentle meditative songs. I try to make my singers feel relaxed and have been told I’m a very patient teacher!

Singing for Fun Prestwich
Description

Formerly known as  ‘Bury Singing for Fun’, we meet once a month for 3 hours on Sunday mornings in Prestwich, to sing acapella songs in 3 or 4 part harmony, learning our songs ‘by ear’, and singing a wide repertoire of songs. There is no audition and no one is asked to sing on their own.
We are not a performance choir, we sing for the love of the sound. Group numbers vary but we generally range between 10 and 12 members every month, and would welcome new singers to join us – no experience needed.

Session times

3rd Sunday of the month*, from 10am to 1pm - with 30 minute tea break
* please check dates as sessions sometimes take place on other Sundays for practical reasons
