Additional information

Laura has directed Treblemakers for 20 years and has been co-directing Wilful Choir in Kingston with Surya Cooper for the last five years.  She is also a member of Vasari Singers, and records and performs regularly with them.

Laura’s background is in classical singing and opera but she has always enjoyed singing and teaching songs in a wide variety of musical styles. Over 30 years ago she began singing for Music in Hospitals and Care, bringing live music to patients, clients, families and members of staff in hospitals and Care homes.

This work has been transformative. Laura continues to learn how much she enjoys the intimacy of singing for and with  clients.  She has specialised in singing to and with elderly clients.  These experiences have shown her again and again the extraordinary power of music to connect a group of people,  and the strength of the musical memory when other faculties may have weakened.

Laura has been lucky to have generous friends in the NVN who have included her in many wonderful improvisation sessions and she draws on that experience in all the work she does with her choirs.

Laura continues to expand her vocal practice and enjoys arranging and composing as well as teaching singing and running workshops.  She is constantly amazed and moved by the human voice in all its forms and loves to help each and every child and adult to find and free theirs.
