An inclusive acapella singing group. Every evening different, no performances. Come when you can.
I run an inclusive, acapella singing group for all abilities. We sing a wide variety of material with some taught harmonies but lots of flexibility for people to experiment. No commitment is required as every evening is different and I teach what is needed at the time. No performances or recordings. I used to run a community choir but found the arranging and part-teaching quite exhausting. This model has been liberating and enables me to do what I love – facilitating people to sing. As important as the singing is the community that we are building and so at the beginning of each session we go around and say our names and answer an ice-breaker question (such as if you could only eat one chocolate bar for the rest of your life, what would it be?) I have a full time job that isn’t music related (CEO of a charity) but this music group – Soul Singing – is really bringing a lot of joy to me and everyone in the group (hopefully!) I have a music degree and have sung in many choirs over the years, including a semi-professional gospel choir for ten years. I have no professional teaching qualifications but plenty of real life experience 🙂
A friendly, inclusive, acapella choir where you just turn up and sing. No commitment needed and no performances. We meet because we love singing and the benefits it brings to mind, body and soul. Some harmonies are taught, some are made up. Members are encouraged to try new things in a safe space. We start every evening with names and an icebreaker so that everyone feels included. Once a term we have a bring and share meal where friends and family are invited to an informal singalong. The choir leader, Jo Bega, is passionate about inclusive, joyful singing and tries to be super-encouraging.
Monday evenings in term time from 7 to 9pm with a tea break in the middle
