I have a wide variety of poetry resources available:
- I produce poetry cards: postcard-sized poems or snippets of poems. These can be used at gatherings such as choirs or yoga groups; they can be left on chairs, for example, or placed in a convenient place for people to choose one themselves. They are ideal for singing events, both residential weekends and regular groups. Sometimes there’s magic at play, and people receive exactly the right poem for them for that day.
- I also have lots of poems for a range of challenging times or events., and I can help you find some poetry medicine to aid your passage through these. In the past I worked as a homeopath, and I have lots of experience of giving people poems to help the healing process.
- I have a compilation of poems for therapists to use with their clients, which I’m happy to share.
- I offer a selection of poems for ceremonies such as weddings and funerals, and I’m very happy to help you find the one(s) you need.
I don’t charge for any of this, other than to cover printing and postage costs where appropriate.
My experience is that people attending singing weekends love poetry cards. A poem can feel like an individual gift, and can touch something deep inside. I think the cards are particularly ideal for retreats or contemplative singing, but they can be used for a wide range of purposes, including providing an easy way of finding a phrase to move into group improv. They could even simply be available as people walk into a choir each week, enabling people to choose one themselves if they’d like to.
“Gill’s Poetry Cards are a beautiful offering for life as well as for singing groups. They are gifts in any moment. We can choose a poem that is relevant to a situation or an event, or choose a poem blind and see how it speaks to us. Sometimes they can answer questions we have. The cards also offer a brilliantly easy way of finding a phrase or phrases that can be a starting point for a group impro. After my experience of them when Gill brought them to a workshop, I’m looking forward to exploring different ways of including them in more of my workshops and rehearsals.” – HC, workshop leader
