Join inspirational facilitator and researcher Ruth Routledge for Singing Facilitation 101 – an 8-week online and in-person weekend covering how to lead effective and inclusive group singing, breathing and all aspects of voicework, with demonstrations and opportunities to try things out with supportive and constructive feedback.
Drawing on 20 years of experience in community, health and education settings, along with the latest Singing for Health research, this course bridges the gap between singing-skills and transformative group facilitation.
Whether you’re starting from scratch or refining an established practice, learn how to create inclusive spaces where voices (and people) thrive.
The online course has a different focus each week starting from you and your practice and covering all the elements of leading safe & successful singing groups in any context: inclusive warm-ups, vocal health, beating and gesture, how to teach songs, how to develop your group over time and how to embed inclusion into every aspect of your singing groups.
The in-person weekend is structured so that Saturday focuses on warm-ups, vocal health and simple-song teaching. On Sunday we go more in-depth around how to develop a group’s sound, along with teaching, conducting and refining longer, more complex songs.
You will learn:
- warm-ups (ice-breakers, physical, vocal and team-building);
- how to break down and teach songs quickly and effectively;
- what to do with your hands (beating, starting, stopping and more) and developing your gestural language;
- inclusive exercises to adapt and integrate into your practice;
- developing your group musically and interpersonally.
Ruth demonstrates and teaches with warmth and clarity, supporting each participant in their learning style and pace.
