Kirtan means “Singing the Divine Name” and is a devotional practice from India, where voice, rhythm, and repetition come together to create a meditative and uplifting experience. Traditionally, it involves call-and-response chanting of simple sounds or phrases, often accompanied by music, allowing participants to drop out of the thinking mind and into a more embodied, open state. You don’t need any vocal experience or to consider yourself a “good” singer — Kirtan is open to everyone. It’s not about performance, but about expression, connection, and discovering your voice in a supportive, inclusive space.
